Dozmary Pool and the Lady of the Lake...

I'm very lucky to have this beautiful location right on my doorstep. It's not an easy location to shoot though as it's quite difficult to find any pleasing compositions. There are however, a couple of spots where old fences run out into the lake providing nice leading lines taking your eye into the center of the image. The image above was a five shot vertical panorama taken on a recent visit with my good friend, Robert Dawson, an accomplished photographer himself. Check out his website here. I love the pastel colours reflected on the surface of the lake which was very still and calm with barely a ripple on the surface. Shooting early in the morning is my favourite time to be out and about with my camera, surrounded by the sounds of nature and the countryside waking up.

Sunset and Moon Rise...

Being only a very short drive from my house means that if conditions are looking good for a nice sunset image I can just throw my gear in the back of the car and be on the lakeside in minutes. This image (above) was taken recently as I could see from my garden that the sky was looking like it might light up Unfortunately there weren't enough high clouds in the sky to catch and reflect the red glow from the sun as it dipped below the horizon. I did however capture this image of the sun setting and the moon rising in the same frame! I know there is a stunning sunset image to be had here when conditions are right and I'm on a mission to capture that sunset! Interesting fact about Dozmary Pool... Folklore has it that Dozmary Pool is the home of the Lady of the Lake. According to the legend, it is here that King Arthur rowed out to the Lady of the Lake and received the sword Excalibur. The outflow from the lake leads down to Colliford Lake and is one of the sources of the River Fowey.
